VIMO History—The Short Story

In August 2001, Dr. Ed and Phyllis Hopfner opened the PAARC Clinic in the basement of St. Andrews Episcopal Church to serve those in our community with no access to primary care medical services. However, within a year and a half, it became apparent that the need was greater than the PAARC Clinic could serve.

Dr. Hopfner went to the United Way for help, and began working to expand the PAARC Clinic into the Volunteers in Medicine project that the United Way was already coordinating.

In September 2004, the PAARC Clinic became the Volunteers in Medicine of the Olympics (VIMO) Clinic, and Olympic Medical Center leased VIMO the building at 909 Georgiana Street for $1.00 per year.

On July 7th 2004 the VIMO Clinic officially opened its doors. Since then, VIMO has served over 2,500 patients with over 5,000 office visits.

Good Job, VIMO!
